We do not necessarily know it, but the manufacturer WMF, better known across the Rhine than in France, is owned by the Seb group. It is therefore not very surprising to see him adopt the same philosophy, and his new automatic coffee machine with grinder, the Perfection 890L, is manufactured in France, in the group’s factories in Mayenne. In addition, the manufacturer indicates that spare parts will be available for 15 years to ensure optimal repairability of the device during this period.
Of course, WMF has paid particular attention to the visual aspect of its product and noble materials, such as brushed aluminium, are in the spotlight. Note a small originality at the base of the Perfection 890L, a light ramp that runs all around the device. All this remains very subjective, but the effect is rather successful.
From a technical point of view, the Perfection 890L is not really surprising. Launched at 1999 €, it is placed in a high-end segment, alongside the Delonghi Perfecta Deluxe ESAM 460.80.MB and other Siemens EQ900 TQ903R09. Like its two competitors (among many others), it relies on a fully touch interface which takes the form of a large 4.3-inch screen and which we are promised very responsive. Thanks to it, the user can choose one of the 18 basic recipes (ristretto, cappuccino, flat white, etc.), some of which are milky since a milk carafe (in glass) will be provided. All these different drinks will be configurable down to the smallest detail (intensity, quantity, foam volume, etc.) and four profiles are provided to be able to store the settings of eight recipes each.
To accomplish its mission, the Perfection 890L has a 2-litre water tank and a bean container with a capacity of 250 grams. The coffee is ground by a steel grinder, the fineness of which can be adjusted to five levels. According to our interlocutors, the device also adjusts this parameter on its own according to the drink chosen. Another point of importance, the Perfection 890L has been designed to reduce its noise level as much as possible. Honeycomb structure, shock absorbers and other buffers are responsible for limiting noise, especially during grinding, the most critical phase.
WMF wants to totally free the user from the painful maintenance operations of his coffee maker. Descaling is therefore automated, as is the cleaning of the various dispensing nozzles (coffee and milk). The other side of the coin, the manufacturer does not give access to the extraction group. However, we were assured that every effort was made to prevent mold from forming in the device. Of course, we are eagerly waiting for the Perfection 890L in our laboratory to verify this assertion.
Note that the 890L is the most advanced model in the Perfection range, which also includes the 840L (“only” 15 recipes and without the milk carafe) launched at €1599 and the 860L (17 recipes and the milk carafe supplied) sold, it, 1799 €. All these automatic machines with WMF shredder will be available very soon.
