Wimbledon rival on Grigor’s road and in New York (draw)

In the second consecutive Grand Slam tournament, Grigor Dimitrov will play in the first round against the American Steve Johnson. The draw at the US Open saw the two face each other at the start, and the same thing happened at Wimbledon in late June.

Then Grigor convincingly won the first set, but in the second he was injured while serving and gave up the competition. In his last match yesterday, Grigor also lost by forfeit after feeling sick against Dominic Thiem again after winning the first part. However, the Bulgarian said he will be fit for the race in New York, which starts on Monday.

Against world No. 115 Johnson Grigor has five wins and two losses in addition to the forfeit.

If he overcomes it this time, in the second round the Bulgarian will play the American Brendan Nakashima or a qualifier. In the third round, a possible opponent could be the young talent Yannick Siner from Italy, who is 11th in the scheme. Overall, Dimitrov’s eight is not among the strongest, with the highest-ranked player being eighth seed Hubert Hurkach of Poland, who he could meet in the round of 16.

The first opponent of Serena Williams in the last tournament of her career has also become clear. It will be the Montenegrin Danka Kovinic.

Here are the other interesting men’s first round matches:

Daniil Medvedev (Russia) – Stefan Kozlov (USA)

Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) – Qualifier

Kasper Ruud (Norway) – Kyle Edmund (Great Britain)

Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) – Sebastian Baez (Argentina)

Rafael Nadal (Spain) – Rinky Hijikata (Australia)
