“When no one’s looking, I’m going to kidnap you”… I thought he was joking, but then he showed me his penis”

The first of the women who accuse Benjamin Mendy of rape has appeared in court to testify. The French Manchester City footballer is on trial for eight counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, which allegedly took place between 2018 and 2021.

According to the first of the alleged victims, the two met in Barcelona in 2017. The woman told the police what happened to her a year later in Mendy’s mansion, where some of the victims say they were locked in “panic rooms”.

The woman claims she and Mendy met in a nightclub where the City star told her: “When nobody’s looking I’m going to kidnap you.” “I thought he was joking,” the woman said in her first statement to police, the full transcript of which was released to the court.

In October 2018, the woman and another friend of hers went to a party at Mendy’s mansion, after which they decided to spend the night there. The 29-year-old alleged victim complained that the next morning the Frenchman tried to enter her in the shower and rubbed his penis against her body.

“I felt his presence, I don’t know how, but I felt it, and I went into shock. I immediately reached for a towel,” says the woman, describing Mendy with a “predatory look in his eyes.” “He wanted to see me naked, to see what it’s under the towel I tried to push him away but he kept holding me.

He took off his boxers and showed me his penis. He kept repeating “it’s okay”. He told me I had nothing to fear – says the woman. According to her testimony, Mendy pulled her to the bed where he tried to put her on his lap as she resisted and screamed “enough” and “no” while trying to cover herself with the towel.

“It was humiliating. I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible,” says the alleged victim, who was unable to explain exactly how she broke away from Mendy and was able to get dressed and leave the mansion.

The woman reported the alleged harassment to the police more than three years after the incident – on January 13, 2022.

Benjamin Mendy is threatened with a sentence of between 5 and 20 years in prison, and in certain situations he can receive a life sentence.

The Frenchman continues to deny all accusations.
