Purple red expresses pure joy without inhibitions, explain their choice from the Pantone Institute
Viva Magenta – this is the color of 2023, traditionally announced in December by the Pantone Color Institute.

“In the age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. Viva Magenta comes from the red family. Rooted in the primal, it reconnects us to the original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, color stimulates our spirit, helping us build our inner strength,” says Letrice Eiseman, executive director of the institute.
This year’s color of the year expresses pure joy and encourages experimentation and uninhibited self-expression. Viva Magenta welcomes anyone with the same zest for life and rebellious spirit. It’s a color that’s bold, full of wit and inclusive,” noted the Pantone Color Institute website.
“We chose this color because we thought it was an unconventional shade for an unconventional time, something that could present us with a new vision,” the institute’s executive director told Time magazine.
The Pantone Color Institute is a research center of the Pantone company that has been determining the color of the year since 2000. From the very beginning, the idea of launching a certain tone that would dominate for an entire 12 months was a worldwide success.
