What is Viva Magenta – the color of 2023
Purple red expresses pure joy without inhibitions, explain their choice from the Pantone Institute
Viva Magenta – this is the color of 2023, traditionally announced in December by the Pantone Color Institute.
It is a shade of red that speaks of the strength and vitality needed to build a more positive future, the institute explains. For fashion dictators, viva magenta, a shade of crimson red, speaks of strength and vitality.
“In the age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. Viva Magenta comes from the red family. Rooted in the primal, it reconnects us to the original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, color stimulates our spirit, helping us build our inner strength,” says Letrice Eiseman, executive director of the institute.
This year’s color of the year expresses pure joy and encourages experimentation and uninhibited self-expression. Viva Magenta welcomes anyone with the same zest for life and rebellious spirit. It’s a color that’s bold, full of wit and inclusive,” noted the Pantone Color Institute website.
“We chose this color because we thought it was an unconventional shade for an unconventional time, something that could present us with a new vision,” the institute’s executive director told Time magazine.
The Pantone Color Institute is a research center of the Pantone company that has been determining the color of the year since 2000. From the very beginning, the idea of launching a certain tone that would dominate for an entire 12 months was a worldwide success.
Choosing a color of the year has been called a “self-fulfilling prophecy.” And the reason is obvious, every time after it is announced what will be the main shade, changes occur in hundreds of areas. Designers, manufacturers and marketers in various industries feel obliged to comply with the current line. And if until now they have neglected to use this color in their production, they are in a hurry to make corrections. The color enters not only the wardrobe and make-up, it becomes part of the interior furnishings, household appliances, it even appears in cars.
Blue with a violet-red hue Pantone 17-3938 veri peri was named the color of the year for 2022.
