Vezenkov returned to Barcelona and showed why he is considered a top 10 player in Europe

Olympiakos left Palau Blaugrana in Barcelona with a 80:70 win in their EuroLeague basketball debut. Of course, in the role of leader was Alexander Vezenkov, who since the summer and his performance for Bulgaria at Euro 2022 has already been considered quite confidently as one of the top ten players on the continent.

Vezenkov finished with 20 points and 7 rebounds, being the leading scorer of both teams in the game. Sasha returned to the gym where he spent three seasons as a player for Barca, but as in the match for third place in last year’s edition of the Euroleague, he once again put up a very strong fight against his former team.

Giannoulis Larenzakis was the other big hero for the winners with important points in the closing minutes, when the score was still tied and the game could have gone in the home side’s direction.

In the meeting, Olympiakos also broke a record – scored all 25 penalty kick attempts. Vezenkov contributed 3/3 in that stat as well.

After the visitors took 5 victories in 5 matches at the start of the tournament on Thursday, Friday brought two home successes, at the expense of the Belgrade giants. ALBA defeated Partizan with 100:84, and the champions from Anadolu Efes beat Red Star with 72:59.

In Bologna, however, the guests were also happy – Monaco won against the local Virtus with 83:66.
