Unconfirmed: Ukrainian troops reached Lisichansk

Ukrainian defense forces have approached the outskirts of the city of Lisichansk, Luhansk region, Ukrainian sources reported. Details of the further plans of the Ukrainian troops have not been confirmed.

The head of the military administration of the Luhansk region, Serhiy Gaidai, said that the Ukrainian troops are already on the outskirts of Lisichansk, “Suspilne Novosti” informs.

It is emphasized that he did not provide any other details.

Earlier, Gaidai hinted on his Telegram channel that Lisichansk will soon be freed from Russian occupation.

“Lisichansk… a wonderful Ukrainian city. What a job it will be to restore it…” he remarked. He later added that people in Lisichansk can now see the Ukrainian military.

So far, there is no official confirmation of how far the Ukrainian army has reached in its counteroffensive in the area.

Lisichansk is a city in the Severodonetsk Region of Luhansk Oblast, southeastern Ukraine. It is located on the high right bank of the Seversky Donets River, on the opposite side of which is Severodonetsk, and about 115 km from the regional city of Luhansk. The population of Lisichansk as of 2020 is 109,913 people.

The city was finally captured by the Russians on July 3 of this year.

Meanwhile, in the summary of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from this evening, there is no information about the offensive near Kharkiv. The General Staff published a bulletin from the front. There are no details on the advance of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kharkiv region. The spokesman of the General Staff, Oleksandr Stupun, explained this with “security considerations of the servicemen”.
