Gymnast Valentina Georgieva was successfully operated on today.
The knee intervention in which the cruciate ligaments and the meniscus were restored was performed by Dr. Ivan Vassilev and his team at the Eurovita Sports Clinic in Sofia, announced Filip Yanev, Valentina’s personal trainer.
Our best gymnast is currently in intensive care. She will remain in the hospital until tomorrow, then she will be discharged and will wear a splint for 6 weeks.
Valentina Georgieva was injured in the vault final at the European Gymnastics Championships in Munich in mid-August.
Then she suffered a serious injury on her first attempt in the final, fell badly on landing and remained lying down, necessitating the entry of medical personnel who assisted the Bulgarian for more than 10 minutes.
Georgieva had ambitions even for a medal from the competition.
Unfortunately, the injury ended Valentina’s participation, as she would not be able to make her second attempt and was officially recorded as not completing the final.
Dr. Ivan Vasilev is a specialist in orthopedics, sports traumatology and arthroscopic surgery. He works in his private clinic near Stuttgart, Germany.
In 2010, he also established the “Eurovita Sports Clinic” in Sofia, which quickly took a vanguard position in the treatment and rehabilitation of leading athletes in Bulgaria, as well as in the implementation of new methods of treating orthopedic diseases and sports injuries.
