Currently, Western countries are not ready for the collapse of the Russian Federation and would like to prevent it.

The most likely scenario the West would like to see is a significant weakening of Russia and a change of power, provided the country retains its current borders and control over its nuclear weapons.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Obozrevatel by the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine in the period 2005-2010, Army General Mykola Malomuzh. The least likely scenario is keeping Russia under dictator Vladimir Putin, he adds.

“Today, the West is not ready for the collapse of Russia. It wants to weaken Putin so that he accepts all the terms of the loss, including security guarantees, demilitarization and compensation for the destruction of the war. This is the last option for Putin, he still can hold on to some conditions,” the general admits.

At the same time, he believes that the most likely scenario is regime change in Russia.

“Judging by the information I receive thanks to my contacts in the US and Europe, I am sure that the West would like to weaken the regime in Russia, would like to see representatives of the Russian politicians to replace Putin, maybe part of the military that to guarantee the stability of Russia, preventing the uncontrolled use of nuclear weapons by possible new state formations in the event of the collapse of Russia,” says Malomuzh.

In his estimation, almost the entire West currently adheres to this position. “That’s why I think the West will try to weaken Russia to the point of degradation – with Putin or, more likely, without Putin. But with a regime that will maintain control over Russia,” the general concludes.
