Russia has 6,257 nuclear warheads and the US has 5,550

The United States is working to be able, through the use of strategic non-nuclear weapons, to neutralize Moscow’s nuclear potential. Newsweek reports this, citing materials published by Russian media.

A Russian online magazine has published an article about the US plan to destroy a significant portion of Russia’s nuclear capabilities before Moscow decides to retaliate.

The publication has been widely circulated in the Russian Federation, stating that in the medium term the US will seek to acquire strategic non-nuclear weapons with a short flight time to targets, which will not be subject to any international restrictions.

Such strategic high-performance firing systems should work on the principle of reconnaissance strike systems, directed energy weapon systems and other advanced systems.

An article by one of the news agencies noted that “the theory of deterrence in the US and NATO countries has been replaced by the theory of preemptive force.”

The US is said to be planning strategic offensive operations in which a significant number of Russian nuclear weapons will be destroyed before the command decides to retaliate, Newsweek reports.

This widespread publication comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin hinted at the possible use of nuclear weapons.

Last month, Putin accused the West of “nuclear blackmail”. He said Russia would use all available means to protect what he called its territorial integrity.

According to data from the Arms Control Association, as of January last year, Russia has 6,257 nuclear warheads, while the United States has 5,550.

Western intelligence, however, sees no signs that Russia is preparing a nuclear strike. But even so, the Biden administration is alarmed by the nuclear rhetoric coming from Russia.
