The saga is over: Frenkie de Jong remains at Barcelona – Football World – Transfers

It looks like one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer is about to come to an end. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is expected to stay at the club after the last day of the transfer window, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs. According to him, such is the desire of the Dutchman and it is about to come true.

De Jong has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou for a long time, with three Premier League clubs interested in him. Manchester United wanted him the most, who had even agreed with the “Catalans” on the amount of the transfer, but the player himself refused, as he wanted to stay in Barca and play in the Champions League. Now Jacobs reports that the “Red Devils” have completely given up on the Dutchman.

The Chelsea team were also among the candidates for De Jong, but have had little to no progress for quite some time. Liverpool, who have problems with a number of injured players in midfield, are looking at other options and will not make a bid for the Netherlands international.

Earlier, there were reports that Barcelona gave an ultimatum to De Jong to reduce his salary or leave due to the inability of the “Catalans” to register their new additions. In the end, however, the Dutchman is ready to make a serious sacrifice to continue playing at Camp Nou. The club are also said to owe him close to €20 million in deferred wages, and the midfielder is willing to forgo much of that, in addition to taking a cut in his current remuneration.
