The prices of Xbox and their games could increase in 2023

Microsoft could finally follow the march of its main competitor Sony by increasing the price of its console. At the annual event Tech Live from wall street journal, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, returned to the success of the Xbox Game Pass. But with its 25 million subscribers in January 2022, the gaming service would not earn enough revenue and would push the company to seek new profits elsewhere, especially in terms of the prices of its consoles and its games.

“We have maintained the price of our console, we have maintained the price of games and our subscription. I don’t think we can do this forever.”, said Phil Spencer. If it is not said and announced clearly, the idea is there. But the CEO of Microsoft Gaming wants to be reassuring about the price of his console as the holiday season approaches: “As we approach this holiday, we thought it was really important to maintain the prices we have. Consumers right now are more uncertain than they have been in a long time, and I want our video game offering to be something they find appealing.”

Microsoft would then follow, in 2023, the steps of the various tech companies offering a service that has increased their prices, from Apple to Disney via Spotify and Netflix. The Redmond company would also follow the initiative of its main competitor, the Japanese Sony, which increased the price of its PS5 by 50 € this year “given the current global economic environment”.
