“The Last Survivors” will have a second season

This news is hardly a surprise to anyone. The best series since the beginning of the year will have its continuation. “The Last Stand” will return for a second season on HBO.

The adaptation of the play of the same name, starring Pedro Pascal and Bela Ramsay, became a hit, although only two episodes have been released so far.

The series scored a 97% positive rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and the premiere episode earlier this month was HBO’s second-most-watched debut in a decade and has already surpassed 22 million views across all platforms.

For its part, Monday’s second episode is already up more than 20% in overnight ratings compared to the premiere.

With such statistics and interest from the viewers, it would be a pure sin not to see a continuation of the intriguing post-apocalyptic story.

“I’m honored and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey,” said executive producer Neil Druckman. “Collaborating with Craig Mazin, our amazing cast and crew, and HBO has already exceeded my high expectations. Now we’re absolutely thrilled to be able to do it again with a second season!”

There’s still no word on what his plan is, but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Drtkman and Mazin hinted that the show won’t waste any time before delving into the plot of The Last of Us sequel.

While the series thus far largely runs parallel to the story of the original PlayStation game, it also takes some bold steps sideways in an attempt to complement and enrich the story. So most likely something similar will happen for the next season as well.

“The audience gave us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and the world that Neal and the game developers created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in,” says Craig Mazin.

The entire first episode of the series was uploaded to YouTube for free ahead of the announcement of the next season, as HBO looks to attract even more viewers to the adaptation.

The third episode of the current season will appear on the HBO streaming platform in the early hours of Monday.
