The manager of Manchester United – Eric ten Haag, did not hide his satisfaction after the success over Liverpool with 2:1 at “Old Trafford”. The Dutchman said after the game that this was just the beginning for his side, who have had a nightmare start to the season with losses to Brighton and Brentford.
Goals from Jaden Sancho and Marcus Rashford saw the Red Devils secure their first win under Ten Hag. Mohamed Salah scored the goal for the guests.
“We can talk about tactics, but in the end it’s all about the attitude of the players in the match. There was communication and fighting spirit. I wanted a different approach and a different attitude from them and that’s exactly what they did. This is only the beginning. We can play with a lot more composure and more danger. We were a team and showed good spirit – we saw that today”, commented Ten Haag.
“I’m happy that Rashford and Sancho scored the goals. Fernandes took responsibility and the captain’s armband gave him confidence. They showed leadership with Varane. They made the big difference, but it’s not just about them. We need more leaders. When you want to win you need leaders and the spirit we showed today. I liked the performance today, but we have to show it in every game, not just against Liverpool. Every single game in the Premier League is difficult. I have a team and I have to use it. We have 50-60 games to play and we will pick the squad for each one. I don’t have to mention Maguire and Ronaldo – they are great players and will have their role in the future. We have the right players, I’m sure. The window has not closed yet. We need a sufficient number of players and quality as well”, said the Dutchman.
