Tesla unveils $300 wireless charger similar to Apple’s AirPower

Nobody expected Tesla on such a niche, which did not prevent the company from unveiling its own Qi-standard wireless charger. This Tesla Wireless Charging Platform has the notable feature of being able to accommodate up to three devices simultaneously (providing up to 15 W per device).

A product that is reminiscent of the AirPower once announced by Apple, before being abandoned due to heating and efficiency problems.

According to the Californian company, the design of the product is inspired by its famous Cybertruck, right down to its 65 W power supply. The charger takes up its characteristic angular lines with an aluminum casing, an alcantara charging surface and a removable magnetic support allowing it to be placed flat or at an angle.

Charging technology tamed by Tesla?

Tesla’s platform is very similar to what Apple wanted to offer with its AirPower, except that it is limited to the Qi charging protocol. The latter is supported by the iPhone and AirPods, but is not supported by the Apple Watch.

It should be noted that the Tesla charger uses the FreePower wireless charging technology, already exploited by other chargers which, all without exception, have to face certain limitations in terms of performance and heating.

Tesla’s Wireless Charging Platform will be available from February 2023 for $300 and is already available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s website. A high price that will not prevent some fans of the brand from being interested in it. The others will look at the Nomad Base Station Pro, probably slightly less well finished but offering exactly the same functions at a lower price.
