West Ham co-owner David Gold has died after a short illness at the age of 86, the club’s official website has announced.
“It is with deep sadness that West Ham United FC can confirm that our beloved joint chairman, David Gold, passed away on Wednesday morning after a short illness. David Gold, 86, passed away peacefully with his devoted daughters, Jacqueline and Vanessa, and his fiancee, Leslie, by his side.” , read a statement from West Ham.
“I am extremely saddened to hear this news and on behalf of all the players and my team at the training ground I would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family of David Gold at this very difficult time. Mr Gold was a regular at Rush Green and was always a source of great support and encouragement to me and the players. It was clear that he had a real and genuine love for the club and was a true supporter at heart. He took a great interest in the people working behind the scenes and was always willing to help in any way he could he can. We will miss him,” said team manager David Moyes.
