Strike for England days before the start of the World Cup – Football world – World Cup
Ben Chilwell will not be in England’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar, the Chelsea full-back has announced after a scan revealed significant tendon damage. He suffered the injury against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.
Chilwell left Stamford Bridge on crutches after making 13 appearances in all competitions.
“I put a lot of effort into getting back in shape after the previous injury because I really wanted to play at the World Cup. I’ve always dreamed of it. Unfortunately, however, this will not be possible after the scan results. I will do everything in my power to get back playing for Chelsea as soon as possible,” Chilwell wrote on his Twitter account.
England will also be without team-mate Reece James, who will be out for the next eight weeks with a knee injury. Kyle Walker and Calvin Phillips are also recovering but there is a chance they could make the World Finals squad.
Following my ACL injury I worked so hard to make sure I was ready for the World Cup. It has always been a dream of mine. Unfortunately, this won’t be possible following my scan results. I’ll do all I can to get back playing for Chelsea ASAP. Thanks for the messages of support 💙 pic.twitter.com/2H01Whhfhn
