Launched in 2009, the Strava sports platform has grown enormously in popularity, to the point of exceeding 100 million users. From aficionados, subscribers to the Premium formula who benefit from advanced features that the free version does not have (creation of routes, ranking on segments, training dashboard, in-depth analyzes of activities, log, objectives, etc.). A formula so far billed €7.99 per month in France and at variable rates in other countries of the world, but which has suddenly increased in many of them.
Up to 67% increase
Such price increases are usually accompanied by messages from the company explaining the reasons and specifying that it is possible to unsubscribe if you do not wish to pay more. Unfortunately, this is not the procedure followed by Strava, which has just raised the prices of its Premium subscription without a clear explanation. Spotted by users who shared it on the Reddit forum, this increase also challenged the youtubeur DC Rainmaker, who therefore conducted the investigation. This shows a variable distribution of increases depending on the region, up to 67%! This one denounces in particular the attitude of Strava, which seems to want to remain discreet about its price increases. Increases certainly understandable in an inflationary context, but which should nevertheless be announced clearly.
Strava has since published on its blog a message explaining the increase in his subscription: “While our subscription price has remained largely constant over the past few years, we also take into account local market conditions. When costs and plans are adjusted, we always strive to improve your experience and invest in the value delivered to you every day. […] Price changes vary by region and preferred platform.“
An annual rate preserved in France
Unfortunately, it remains difficult to find the prices of Strava’s monthly and annual subscriptions from its official website without being registered beforehand, the French page contenting itself with displaying on a banner a price of 5 € / month after the free trial period. After creating a new account for verification, it turns out that the French rate has indeed increased by €2, thus going to €9.99. The €5/month is for an annual subscription at €59.99, a price which does not change.
Strava is a sports tracking app that lets you record and share your routes for biking, walking, skiing, kayaking, and many other outdoor sports. Participate in current challenges and share photos with the community.
