Sony (PlayStation) acquires Savage Games Studios to establish itself in the mobile gaming market

One of the behemoths of console video games is diversifying by buying a mobile game studio. A decision that is part of Playstation’s recent strategy of expanding to as many media as possible, as Gamekult explains.

Playstation, and by extension Sony, continues its expansion with the acquisition of Savage Games Studios, which specializes in mobile games. In a press release published on August 29, the Japanese firm confirms its desire “to expand [son] audience and to welcome more and more people into the PlayStation universe”. And it’s an experienced studio that Sony is integrating into its family, since the three founders have notably worked for Rockstar Games (GTA) or Supercell (Clash of clans).

With this takeover, Sony’s objective is to be able to port PlayStation’s flagship licenses to mobile. A strategy that the company has already implemented for PC ports: “We’ve assured you before when we plan to release some games on PC, and we’ll say it again today: our activities beyond the world of consoles in no way diminish our dedication to the PlayStation community, nor our passion for creating exceptional single-player narrative experiences“, says Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation studios.

Michail Katkoff, CEO and Co-Founder of Savage Games Studios adds: “We believe that the management of PlayStation Studios, in addition to respecting our way of operating and our vision of success, shares our taste for innovation. Add to that the ability to tap into the incredible catalog of PlayStation franchises, as well as the breadth of support that only PlayStation Studios can offer, the question isn’t so much “Why join them?” than “Why not join them?” “”

Remember that this purchase and this platform-side diversification come only a few days after the announcement of the PS5 price increase.
