Their successors weren’t particularly long in coming, but that didn’t stop Shure from unveiling the new generation of the SE846, its most prestigious in-ear Hi-Fi headphones. Some, who may have been waiting for a version 2 full of innovations for a very long time, will be at their expense when they discover these SE846 Gen 2. Indeed, Shure has not decided to really develop its product, according to the information revealed, since the headphones share many points in common with their predecessors.

Indeed, no in-depth modification seems to have been made to the acoustic architecture of the headphones, which is still based on two channels with two balanced armature transducers dedicated to bass (20 Hz to 20 kHz), a third dedicated to midrange (200 Hz to 2 kHz) and a fourth allocated to the reproduction of the highest frequencies (2 kHz to 20 kHz). The crossover between bass and midrange/treble is ensured by a high-cut filter (an acoustic “path” made up of 10 molded stainless steel plates) promising reproduction without distortion or artefacts.

The removable acoustic filter is always accessible in the same way, by unscrewing the stainless steel cannula.

The replaceable acoustic filter system adapting the frequency response of the SE846 is still relevant, this time with a new filter installed by default, “extended”, with a sharper focus between 4 and 12 kHz, in addition to the “balanced” filters. ”, “clear” and “warm” already present on the previous model. A series of Comply memory foam tips are also included, with an announced sound attenuation of 37 dB. The headphones are always connected with an IEM-style cable (passing over the auricle) presenting a remote control and a microphone for calls and ending with a mini-jack connector: an “old-fashioned” configuration, some will say.

The SE846 Gen 2 still come with a hard case, different pairs of ear tips and a 3.5mm to 6.35mm mini-jack adapter. A new colorway joins the stable, with the headphones now being offered in “clear”, “graphite” or “jade”. The SE846 Gen 2 arrive at a price of 1129 €. It is possible to add the optional “true wireless” Secure Fit adapter to provide them with wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, for a final price of €1,239.
