Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave Manchester United in the summer. Now, his WhatsApp messages have been revealed, and it’s clear just how much he really wanted to leave Old Trafford.
Italian journalist Alessandro Alciato revealed to Amazon that the Portuguese star wanted to go to Napoli and took matters into his own hands. In front of him, Cristiano Ronaldo himself sent a message to Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti, which read: “Do you really want me to train with you?”, and Spalletti’s response was: “Of course.”
The two have known each other well since Ronaldo’s time in Serie A, when he played for Juventus, the Italian specialist leading Inter. Despite the great rivalry, there was always respect between them.
As is known, Ronaldo’s transfer did not happen and he will have to continue playing for the Red Devils.
According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Manchester United really wanted to rid themselves of Cristiano’s services, whatever the cost. However, in order for this to happen, Napoli striker Osimmen had to replace the Portuguese at Old Trafford. In Italy it was revealed that in addition to the swap, the English club would have paid an additional 100 million and continued to pay 75% of Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary, which would have meant around 21 million more.
Napoli sporting director Cristiano Gintoli wasn’t interested in signing Ronaldo, so he actually tricked Manchester United into knocking back a colossal bid, not thinking they would.
