Shakira finally speaks out, makes sensational revelations about split with Pique – Football World – Spain

Music star Shakira has broken her silence and has spoken for the first time about her split from Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique.

The singer described the split as “incredibly difficult” in her first comment since the couple ended their 11-year relationship. The 45-year-old Colombian explained in an interview with Elle magazine that she had deliberately kept “silent” until now.

“This is probably one of the hardest and darkest moments of my life. I kept quiet and just tried to process everything. It’s hard for me to talk about, especially because I’m still going through it and because I’m in the public eye and because our breakup isn’t like a normal breakup. So it was difficult not only for me but also for my children. Incredibly difficult,” shared Shakira.

“I tried to hide the situation from my children. I try to protect them, that’s my number one mission. But they hear things at school from their friends or come across unpleasant news on the internet and it just affects them. Sometimes I hope it’s all just a bad dream and that I’ll wake up one day. But no, it’s real. And all this was happening at the same time that my father was in intensive care and I was fighting on different fronts. This is probably the darkest period of my life,” she added.

The “Waka Waka” singer claims paparazzi have been “camping out” outside the house since the news broke, so she tried to “protect” her children. “There was no place I could hide from them with my children except in my own house. We couldn’t walk in the park like a normal family or go for ice cream or do any activity without the photographers following us,” she adds. .

“Having a big dream and seeing a family broken or broken forever is probably one of the most painful things you can go through. He wanted to play and win titles, and I had to support him,” explained the singer and emphasized that the reason for the separation with Pique was their ambitious careers. According to her, after their children Milan and Sasha started school, the family had to decide whether to move to the US for her music career or stay in Barcelona, where the footballer plays.

“One of them had to make that effort and that sacrifice. And I did. I put my career into second gear and came to Spain. And it was a sacrifice of love,” adds the performer.

“Once Milan started school, at the end of 2014, I knew that my constant travel and nomadic existence had to be put on the back burner and my career had to be put into second gear. I knew that when he started school I had to settle down, put down roots in Barcelona and be there for him and Gerard and later Sasha. My children were able to have a mother and I have this incredible bond with them that is unbreakable,” the Grammy winner added.

“Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children,” continued the “Whenever, Wherever” singer, who chose to remain silent on specific details of the split.

“We have work to do for these two amazing boys, and I have faith that we will figure out what is best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what is the fair solution for everyone,” Shakira concluded.

The former couple announced their split in a joint statement over the summer.
