David Schumacher, who is the nephew of the legend Michael and the son of his brother Ralf, suffered a serious accident during his participation in the DTM series in Germany. The 20-year-old driver, who drives for the Mercedes team, ended up with a broken vertebra in his back after a collision with Thomas Preining at the Hockenheim circuit.
“When David came home he was still complaining of back pain. We then went for an MRI in Salzburg and it turned out he had a fractured vertebra and will have to rest for about six weeks,” commented Ralf Schumacher before Motorsport.
David Schumacher had hoped to fight for a place in Formula 2 this season, but that did not happen due to funding problems. His father has been the main sponsor of his career so far, but he himself revealed that reaching Formula 1 is not within his power, purely from a monetary point of view.
David is the youngest representative of the Schumacher family in motor sports. His uncle Michael is an absolute legend with his seven world titles. His father Ralf has a decade at the top with a total of 6 wins and 27 podiums to his name, while his cousin Mick currently drives for Haas and has 12 points from 40 starts, as well as an F2 championship.
