Islam Makhachev inflicted his first loss in five years on former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
Makhachev locked his opponent in an arm triangle after knocking him down with a counter right hook, and the Brazilian patted and surrendered. Thus, the most attractive and most competitive category in the UFC has its new king, carried in the hands of what is still considered the greatest in its history – Khabib.
There was a huge scandal in the hall. Chechen star Khamzat Chimaev was in the gym in Abu Dhabi and ran into a fight with Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who is Khabib’s cousin.
Fortunately, security guards quickly intervened and prevented a more serious disturbance. In the videos, we can see Khabib also reaching across the cage and yelling in the direction of his cousin, while at the same time looking at Chimaev.
“What can I even say about that?” UFC president Dana White commented. “It happens, especially with Hamzat. It happens.”

The feud between Khabib and Chimaev’s team dates back more than a year. Hamzat was originally represented by Ali Abdelaziz, who is the manager of all of Nurmagomedov’s team. Controversy arose after Chimaev said he would crush Khabib during a live broadcast on social media.
This led to Chimaev’s separation from Abdelaziz. Then Abubakar shared that Chimaev ate with them, went to mosque with them, then started talking about smearing. Abubakar warned him to be careful with talk in a social media post in May 2021.
Sean O’Malley believes that he will fulfill the wishes of the fans by becoming the UFC bantamweight champion.
At UFC 280, O’Malley earned a controversial decision victory over #1 bantamweight Piotr Jan. It was a highly contested fight with both fighters having their moments.
But the decision in O’Malley’s favor shocked many fans and fighters who believed Yang had done enough to record a victory. Former bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo even took to Twitter to express his concerns that decisions like this could lead to the UFC becoming like boxing, which has a reputation for corrupt refereeing.
