Power Rangers star Jason David Frank has died aged 49

Actor Jason David Frank, known for his role in the children’s series Power Rangers, has died at the age of 49 at his home in Texas, CNN reports.

The news was also confirmed by Justin Hunt, Frank’s manager, who in a statement on Sunday asked journalists not to intrude on the privacy of the actor’s family and friends at this terrible time for them to come to terms with his loss.

However, Hunt did not specify the cause of his client’s death.

Jason David Frank began his acting career in the 1990s as Tommy Oliver, the original Green Ranger in the children’s series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and has returned to the franchise numerous times over the years.

The series, about five teenagers chosen to protect the Earth from evil cosmic forces, debuted on Fox in 1993, becoming a global phenomenon that continued its development for decades.

Most recently, Frank directed the film Legend of the White Dragon, which was partially funded by Kickstarter and features other cast members of the Power Rangers series.

Frank was also an avid fan of mixed martial arts, and in 2009 and 2010 he even participated in fighting tournaments.
