Portugal coach Fernando Santos has revealed he was worried about the situation with the team’s big star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was briefly left out of Manchester United’s squad for refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham.
Since the start of the season, the forward has been more often on the bench and Santosh has been worried about this fact with the World Cup in Qatar coming up.
“I don’t like to interfere in the work of my colleagues. However, tell me when anyone imagined that Ronaldo would not play regularly. The fact is that things are different now. Cristiano has spoken to his coach. He started the last few games – against Sheriff, West Ham and Real Sociedad. He plays not only in the Europa League, but also in the Premier League,” Santosh told Portuguese Sport TV.
“Until some time ago, it was possible to talk about a lack of game rhythm, but at the moment such a problem does not exist. Yes, there was a moment when I was excited about what was going on with Cristiano. This happened when I was told that he would not be training with the Manchester United first team. Preparing individually is quite difficult. Everything is moving forward now and Ronaldo has a lot of games ahead of him,” said Fernando Santos.
