Liverpool have officially announced the loan signing of Brazilian midfielder Artur Melo from Juventus. The 26-year-old midfielder will play at Anfield for the whole of this season on loan after completing his move to the AXA Training Centre.

Artur arrives in England after two seasons at Juve, for whom he played 63 goals, scoring once, after joining from Barcelona in September 2020. Shortly after the announcement of the deal, the “Bianconeri” announced that the player could stay permanently at “Anfield” if 37.5 million euros were paid for him, and the amount could be transferred over two years. Merseysiders will pay 4.5 million euros for the one-year rent.

“I am extremely happy to wear this wonderful shirt with an outstanding emblem that means so much to world football. It’s a dream for me. We talked a lot, about our ideas, visions and everything fits perfectly. I am very pleased and motivated to continue to give my all for Liverpool FC,” Arthur began.

The Brazilian started his professional career in his native Gremio, and for the team from Porto Alegre he registered 50 matches in four seasons, after which he moved to Barca in 2018.

In his two years in Spain, he won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, representing the Catalans 72 times in all competitions, scoring six goals. The midfielder has 22 caps for Brazil, winning the 2019 Copa America alongside Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino, before making his move to Italy.

He added: “Liverpool have a fantastic history in football. I’ve played against this team and I know very well what it’s like to be in this stadium against their fans. I was a rival in this case but now I’m excited. It’s a massive club with a massive manager and great players. Like I said before, it’s a dream for me to be here.”
