Official: Liverpool sign Cody Gakpo – Soccer World – England

Liverpool have managed to sign PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Cody Gakpo. The Netherlands forward impressed with his performances at the World Cup in Qatar and the club announced the deal just minutes ago. The news was confirmed precisely by PSV Eindhoven.

Gakpo has been a transfer target for Chelsea and Manchester United, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to have reached an agreement with the player and PSV Eindhoven representatives in the last 72 hours. The transfer fee is expected to be between 40 and 50 million euros, including possible bonuses. The player will travel to England for his medical with the aim of starting training with the Merseysiders this week.

“We won’t say the exact transfer amount for Cody Gakpo, but I can say that this is a record transfer for PSV,” commented team director Marcel Brands.

Gakpo has 9 goals and 12 assists in 14 Eredivisie games for PSV this season and logically his good play with the Dutch giants team, as well as his great performance at the World Cup, are the reasons for this transfer to Liverpool.

The Merseysiders have serious problems with injured players – Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are out with long-term injuries and Roberto Firmino will also miss a few games. Gakpo could freshen up Liverpool’s attack and the good news for Jurgen Klopp is that the attacking player can play in any part of the attack.
