Official: Joao Felix to save Chelsea’s season – Football World – Transfers

Chelsea have officially announced the signing of striker Joao Felix from Spanish club Atletico Madrid. The 23-year-old Portuguese will play at Stamford Bridge on loan until the end of the 2022/2023 season.

Blues manager Graham Potter has been forced to bring Felix into his squad following their poor run of form – they have won just two of their last 10 games and are 10th in the Premier League.

According to reports in England, Chelsea will pay around 11 million euros for his six-month loan, although Atletico have confirmed that Felix has signed a new contract with Madrid until 2027 before leaving for the island.

Felix joined Atlético from Benfica for €126 million in 2019, making it the fourth most expensive transfer in football history, but his stay at the Wanda Metropolitano has not been entirely successful.

He helped the club win La Liga in 2021 but didn’t start every game under Diego Simeone, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists in 131 matches. The Portuguese also has 28 caps for his country with four goals.

Felix, 23, has started seven of his 16 games for Atletico in La Liga this season. In 20 games in all tournaments, he recorded five goals and three assists.

“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help them achieve their goals, so I’m very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge,” the striker told Chelsea’s website.
