Nintendo won’t be at E3 2023

After the defection of Sony and Xbox, it is the turn of Nintendo, the third big fish in the game console market, to announce that it will not hold any booths at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where one of the high masses of video games, E3 2023. This is not very surprising, the Kyoto firm generally preferring to stay behind this great rout. What doesn’t really help matters, Nintendo’s big launch this year (Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom) will have been out for a month and so the train will have already passed by for a while.

This is what Nintendo confirms to justify its absence: “The interest of our investment in each event is judged on a case-by-case basis, and each time we study the best ways to interact with our fans. Since this year, E3 does not serve our plans, we have chosen not to participate. In summary, we have nothing to gain from it, we stay at home. However, with all-Japanese politeness, Big N clarifies that the company still supports E3.

Even if there is still some uncertainty, it is therefore very unlikely that the successor to the Switch will be unveiled at the show. Like every year, a Nintendo Direct should take place in parallel (nothing has yet filtered on this subject), but probably to reveal some future games or improvements to the Nintendo Online service. The arrival of the Dreamcast or the Game Cube in the virtual console catalog, perhaps?

This is certainly a blow for E3 2023, an edition that reconnects with the public after three years of virtual conferences due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
