- Watch the announcement for Cobra Kai season 6:
In a letter distributed on the networks (read below), Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the creators of Cobra-Kaicelebrate the universe of the Karate Kid franchise: “To do Cobra-Kai allowed us to join the same dojo one day inhabited by the greats Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub (director, screenwriter and producer of the first Karate Kid films, editor’s note), as well as the terrific original actors. It also allowed us to play sensei, expand the original story arcs and spawn a new generation of underdogs.”.
“Our goal since the beginning of Cobra-Kai has always been to end the adventure on our terms […] It is with great pride and gratitude that we have achieved this. The sixth season will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai,” the creators added.
Cobra-Kai takes place 30 years after the events of the film Karate Kid and recounts how a redemption-seeking Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) reopens the Cobra Kai dojo and reignites his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). The first Karate Kid, released in 1984, had been an impressive success, collecting 100 million dollars in the United States for an 8 million budget. The film will have three sequels (1986, 1989 and 1994) and a reboot in 2010 with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
Released in 2018 on YouTube Red/Premium, the series has been an impressive success since its debut, its very first episode garnering 90 million views, and that of season 2 more than 86 million. This program then migrated to Netflix from season 3, becoming one of the most popular on the platform.
The sixth and final season of Cobra-Kai will begin filming in late spring, but no official release date has yet been announced. Digital will of course keep you informed.
