The next film by the Mexican filmmaker, an adaptation of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley in development for the streaming platform, would thus have found its (sumptuous) main cast.

Oscar Isaac as Frankenstein’s monster?

Our colleagues from Deadline thus report that the project is currently being written by Guillermo Del Toro, and that the director would have met Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Star Wars), Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick… Boom!, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Mia Goth (X, Suspiria, A Cure for Life) so that they embody the main roles of the future film. If nothing has yet been officially signed, it would only be a matter of time, and the three actors would already be ready.

We do not yet know which actor will interpret which role, but we can imagine that Doctor Victor Frankenstein is played by the slender and intense Andrew Garfield, and that his famous monster is camped by Oscar Isaac, already accustomed to playing a sinister figure and impressive in the series Moon Knight. For her part, Mia Goth could play the character of Elizabeth Lavenza, or Justine Mortiz, two young girls adopted by the Frankenstein family. She could also be Margaret Walton Saville, sister of Robert Walton, principal correspondent in Mary Shelley’s original book.

Guillermo Del Toro is developing this film project Frankenstein for many years, and its recent successes as The Shape of Water And Pinocchio allow him today to see it take off. As a reminder, this feature film scheduled for Netflix is adapted from the book “Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus” written by Mary Shelley in 1818, and considered one of the precursors of modern science fiction.

The novel has already seen a multitude of adaptations of uneven quality, including the great classic Frankenstein by James Whale (1931) with Boris Karloff, that of Kenneth Branagh released in 1994 with Robert de Niro in the title role, or even the recent Victor Frankenstein with Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy.

No release date has yet been announced, but Les Numériques will obviously keep you informed.
