Netflix: a new Wallace and Gromit film expected for 2024

Fans of crackers, cheese and porridge rejoice: the famous duo Wallace and Gromit will return in a brand new film, due on the Netflix streaming platform next year.

30 years of Wallace and Gromit

This ad from English studios Aardmann coincides with the 30th anniversary celebrations of the cult short bad pantsthanks to which Wallace and Gromit won the first of their three Oscars, before those of A close shave (1995) and movie The Mystery of the Were-Rabbit in 2005.

If this future film does not yet have an official title, we know that it will be released in the course of the year 2024 on Netflix worldwide with the exception of the United Kingdom, where it will be broadcast on the channel of the BBC. This will be the duo’s first adventure in stop-motion (stop-motion animation in volume) since 2008 and the short film A holy mess!. Wallace and Gromit isn’t the only popular license from Aardman Studios, which also produced the films. chicken run (2000) and Shaun the Sheep (2007).

Wallace and Gromit are one of the most famous duos in animation. Created by Nick Park and studio Aardman, the slightly naive Englishman and his sensitive and inventive dog first appeared in the short A great excursion in 1989, and enjoyed immediate and international success. Possessing a timeless charm, their adventures are always a delight of absurd humour, inventiveness and astonishing poetry.

This return of the two plasticine stars (plasticine in reality) to Netflix confirms the streaming platform’s desire to strengthen its offer of animated films and series. Le N rouge is currently the generalist service (excluding Crunchyroll) which has offered the most animation programs in its catalogue.

This next Wallace and Gromit adventure isn’t the first collaboration between Netflix and Aardman Animations. In 2020, the wonderful short film Ruby fallen from the nest aired for Christmas on the platform, and a sequel to chicken runtitled Dawn of the Nuggetis also scheduled for 2023.
