Moscow warns Washington of risk of direct military confrontation (Obzor)

The US decision to send more military aid to Ukraine increases the danger of a direct military confrontation between Russia and the West. This was warned by the Russian ambassador to the USA, Anatoly Antonov, quoted by the BBC. According to him, this is an immediate threat to Moscow, describing the US as a participant in the conflict.

Earlier, Washington announced another $625 million in military aid to Kyiv. It is believed that advanced American weapons are helping Ukraine build momentum against Russian forces, Western media noted.

However, according to the Russian diplomat, this will lead to “prolonged bloodshed and new victims”.

We call on Washington to stop its provocative actions,

which can lead to the most serious consequences”, said Antonov.

“The Pentagon’s statement about the possibility of using HIMARS rocket launcher systems delivered to Ukraine against targets in Crimea confirms the direct involvement of the United States in the conflict,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented.

EU ambassadors reached an agreement on new sanctions against Russia, including a price ceiling for the sale of Russian oil. In the already adopted eighth package of measures, Belgium and Italy have been granted two-year exemptions from the EU ban on imports of certain steel products from Moscow. Malta, on the other hand, gets a reprieve from the introduction of the new EU restrictions on the introduction of a ceiling on oil prices from the Russian Federation.

“We worked quickly and decisively. We will never accept Putin’s fake referendums, nor any annexation in Ukraine. We are determined to continue making the Kremlin pay,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The package aims to hit Russia’s steel industry and deprive the Kremlin’s military of key technologies. It includes more measures against individuals supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war effort. And it prohibits EU citizens from participating in the management boards of Russian state-owned enterprises.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin stated that

has great respect for the Ukrainian people

despite the current situation. Regarding the four annexed Ukrainian regions, the Russian leader indicated that he expects the situation there to stabilize. Earlier on Wednesday, the president signed a law on the accession to Russia of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, ending the formal annexation process.

The master of the Kremlin also signed the world’s first annexation of a nuclear power plant. The document decrees the accession of the sites of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to Russia.

Asked if there was a contradiction between the promise made to the population of these territories that they are now “with Russia forever” and the Ministry of Defense’s confirmation of the withdrawal of the Russian military from a number of settlements in these areas, Dmitry Peskov replied: “There is nothing was a contradiction. They will be with Russia forever, they will be returned.”
