The footballer’s contract with French giants Paris Saint-Germain expires in the summer, but he is free to negotiate and agree a new contract as early as January.

With this move, the Argentine international will become the highest paid player in the history of the American championship. Miami, which is co-owned by David Beckham, is also looking at signing two of Messi’s close friends and former team-mates to sweeten the deal.
