Meghan and Harry traveled to Germany before she gave a speech in Manchester

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, said it was great to be back in Britain, making the first public speech since she and her husband Prince Harry stepped back from their royal duties, Reuters reported.

She took part in a meeting of young leaders held in Manchester. In her speech, Meghan said they were helping to bring about “positive and necessary” change in the world.

The Sussexes made the speech a week after her interview with US magazine The Cut was published, in which she again criticized how she and Harry have been treated by the British royal family.

“It’s great to be back in the UK,” Meghan said in a keynote speech at the One Young World summit in Manchester. She was accompanied by her husband Harry, Queen Elizabeth’s grandson. “You are the future, but I would like to add that you are also the present. You are the ones driving the positive and necessary change that the entire world needs now and at this very moment,” she declared from the podium.

The Duchess of Sussex spoke about her first experience of the meeting in 2014, when she was invited to be an advisor to the forum.

“I’m thrilled that my husband can join this time,” she said to a standing ovation from the audience.

Harry and Meghan then traveled to the western German city of Düsseldorf to promote the Invictus Games for military veterans, the Associated Press reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by the mayor and hundreds of fans who awaited them in the old town. The two were welcomed in the town hall building.

The races are expected to be held in Düsseldorf next year, the Associated Press notes.

The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry in 2014 for war veterans as a way to support their recovery and give sport a new meaning in their lives.

Later today, Harry and Meghan are scheduled to take a boat trip along the Rhine River, which will include veterans.
