Manchester United have failed in their bid to land Chelsea transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Red Devils made a late bid for the Gabonese left-footed at Barcelona on Saturday after the uncertain future of Cristiano Ronaldo and injury-prone Anthony Martial left the Englishmen’s only options in attack alongside Marcus Rashford.
Having deemed the former Arsenal captain a cheaper option than Napoli’s Victor Osimen, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reveals United are ready to offer Aubameyang a longer-term deal than Chelsea. The Blues are believed to be offering the striker a one-year contract, while the Gabonese is insisting on at least two.
However, Aubameyang has already agreed personal terms with the Blues. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano adds that the Londoners are ahead of United in the battle for Aubameyang. The striker’s desire to play in the Champions League, something Chelsea can offer, is also believed to be a deciding factor.
However, Barcelona are believed to be keen on getting €30m for Aubameyang and Chelsea tabled a €20m bid earlier this week, but also have the option of including Marcos Alonso as part of the deal. The Spaniard also has a desire to join the “Catalans”.
