AC Milan dramatically beat La Spezia 2-1 in a Serie A Round 13 clash to return to winning ways in the Italian championship. The match at San Siro offered a lot of emotions, with Frenchmen Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud becoming heroes for the Rossoneri, who scored both goals. However, Giroud made a big mistake when he was sent off with a second yellow card for taking his shirt off when he scored late in the game. The goal for Spezia was the work of the son of Milan legend Paolo Maldini – Daniel, but it was not enough for Petko Hristov’s team, who entered the game in the 68th minute.
With this victory, Milan collected 29 points and went to second place in the temporary ranking of Serie A, where Spezia is in 17th position with 9 points in its asset.
Milan started the better in the 14th minute when Fikayo Tomori forced the Spezia keeper to save a shot into the center of the goal, and two minutes later the ball flew over the goal from Rade Krunic’s close-range shot.
The hosts’ pressure paid off in the 21st minute when Ismael Benasser crossed well from the right. In the penalty area, Theo Hernandez controlled the ball and with a brilliant shot sent the ball into the bottom left corner of Bartolomej Dragowski’s goal.
The goal was reviewed for a long time for potential handball by the Frenchman, but it was eventually disallowed.
In first-half stoppage time, Milan looked to double after strikes from Rafael Leao and Krunic, while Mehdi Bourabiya played a pass to Mbala Nzola, whose shot went wide of the left-hand post.
Ten minutes after the start of the second half, Albin Ekdal shot dangerously from the edge of the penalty area, but sent the ball over the goal.
In the 59th minute, Spezia equalized, and the hero for the “eagles” was the youth of Milan and son of the legend Paolo Maldini – Daniel, who received the ball from Arkadiusz Rezza and with a powerful shot from afar did not leave a chance for Ciprian Tatarushanu – 1: 1.
However, the joy of Spezia was scalded in the 65th minute. Divock Origi then received the ball on the winger. The Belgian kept the ball, seeing Sandro Tonali rushing towards the penalty area and passed to him. The young midfielder did not hesitate and with a famous shot from the arc of the penalty area sent the ball into the upper right corner of the goal of Spezia.
Three minutes later, however, the goal was disallowed due to a decision by Pierre Kalulu in the course of the Rossoneri’s attack.
The drama came to a head in the 89th minute when Sandro Tonali found Olivier Giroud in the box. There, the Frenchman sent the ball into the visitors’ net with a precise shot. To his delight, however, Giroud took off his shirt and received his second yellow card, leaving Milan a man down in extra time.
To his joy, however, the pressure of Petko Hristov and company did not yield results and the Italian champion returned to the winning way.
