Liverpool legend attacks Van Dijk – Football World – England

Jamie Carragher criticized Virgil van Dijk’s defensive performance, describing the Dutchman’s problems as a lack of intensity after Liverpool lost 2-1 to Manchester United.

The resurgent Red Devils won for the first time in the current Premier League season. Reds centre-back Van Dijk was at fault for United’s first goal, standing still as winger Jaden Sancho had too much time and space to score. Iconic former Liverpool defender Carragher has criticized the defender’s “intensity”.

“That’s the only thing I would fault Van Dijk for as a player. He is perfect in most things. The only thing I sometimes wonder is if he lacks a bit of intensity and aggression at certain moments in the game,” shared the Liverpool legend.

“I know you never see him on the floor and that’s a strength for a defenseman, if a defenseman is on the grass all the time, that’s not a good sign. But every now and then you have to go for the ball. At Sancho’s goal, he was literally standing there. This is a time when you need to fly out and just throw yourself at the opponent. You can’t just stand there!” said former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
