It’s official: They’ve brought together the four greatest tennis players of all time on one team

Team Europe’s amazing line-up for the Old Continent’s traditional tournament format against the rest of the world in tennis, the Laver Cup, has been confirmed. For the first time, we will see the four greatest players of the new age in the sport – Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray – in the same team, although two of them are already past the peak of their careers.

The Swiss Maestro has not refused the invitation to the matches of the competition between September 23 and 25 in London, as he has been one of the main drivers of the Laver Cup initiative since its inception.

Federer has been out of action for nearly a year and a half, since Wimbledon 2021, but has announced that he will return this fall to try to restart his career. It is clear that he cannot be at the same level that brought him 20 Grand Slam titles and also turned 41 a few days ago.

Andy Murray, also number one in the rankings for the last 2 decades dominated by the Big Three, has confirmed his participation in London. He is still in the top 50 (#47) in the rankings, although he is now 35 and has twice given up tennis with serious injuries only to come back and try again.

Three-time Slam champion Murray hasn’t won a title in 3 years, but remains one of the most popular competitors in the sport.

There is nothing to say about Novak and Rafa – the two best in the world for at least the last 10 years. The Spaniard has 22 Slam titles, the Serbian has 21.

In addition to them, Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5 in the ranking at the moment) and Kasper Ruud (No. 7) are also in the European squad for the matches.

A look at the top 10 shows that as many as 9 of tennis’ most elite players are European, with injury preventing Alexander Zverev from playing in London and Russians Andrei Rublev and Daniil Medvedev “left out” of the invitations… for reasons that which is not difficult to guess.

The world team is also strong, with No. 9 Felix Ogi Aliassime the highest-ranked player, and Taylor Fritz (#13), Diego Schwartzman (#15) and American Jack Sock (#107).

The other two names have yet to be announced, but one is expected to be Nick Kyrgios (Australia), who is having an incredible second half of the season.
