Infantino with a puzzling explanation for the selfie next to Pele’s coffin – Football world – Others

Criticism on social networks of FIFA president Gianni Infantino prompted him to comment on the selfie next to Pele’s coffin. The head of World Football Headquarters gave a rather dubious explanation, saying that he “wanted to help friends and teammates” of the King of Football.

“I have just returned from my trip to Brazil where I had the privilege of attending the beautiful Pele tribute held at Villa Belmiro, Santos. I am dismayed to learn that I have been criticized for taking selfies and pictures during yesterday’s ceremony…I would like to clarify that I was honored that teammates and family members of the great Pele asked me if i can take some pictures with them. And of course, I immediately accepted,” began the explanation of the Swiss-Italian, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.

“In the case of the selfie – Pele’s teammates wanted to take a selfie all together, but they didn’t know how to do it. So to help, I grabbed one of them’s phone and snapped a picture of us all for him.”

“If helping a teammate of Pele’s creates criticism, I’m happy to accept it and will continue to be helpful whenever possible.” I help those who have contributed to writing the legendary pages of football. I have so much respect and admiration for Pele and for this ceremony yesterday that I would never do anything that would be disrespectful in any way. I hope that anyone who has posted or said things without knowing and without looking up information has the decency and courage to admit they were wrong. Let him correct what he said,” Infantino concluded.
