“Indiana Jones 5” will once again pit Harrison Ford against a familiar foe

If there’s one thing Indiana Jones hates more than snakes, it’s Nazis. Ever since Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harrison Ford’s character has been battling Hitler’s hordes.

It looks like he’ll have to deal with Nazis in the next film in the series as well. It still doesn’t have a name and for now is known simply as “Indiana Jones 5”, but details of what the plot will be are already coming out.

The story will take place in 1969, against the backdrop of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union. But America’s efforts to win the race to the moon bring with it some uncomfortable truths.

“The simple fact is that the moon landing program was run by a group of ex-Nazis,” Indiana Jones 5 screenwriter Jez Butterworth told Empire. “How ‘ex’ they are is the question that worries Indy…”

Here it becomes clear who will play the main villain. And it won’t be anyone, but Mads Mikkelsen himself. He will take on the role of Fowler, a former Nazi scientist who finds work at NASA after World War II.

His image was inspired by Wernher von Braun, considered a pioneer in the development of rocket technology. In World War II, he played a major role in the design of one of the world’s first ballistic missiles, the Vau-2, which Hitler tried to use as his final trump card to turn the tide of the war.

After the Allied victory, von Braun was secretly transferred to the United States, along with 1,600 other Nazi scientists. In the following decades, he played a leading role in the development of the American space program.

Mikkelsen sheds very little light on his Fowler.

“He is a man who would like to correct some of his past mistakes,” says the Danish actor. “There’s something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He’d like to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it, too. So we have a story.”

No doubt it will be a story that combines a bit of historical fact with a bit of fiction. It will also include a big scene during the ceremonial parade in New York to welcome the astronauts who landed on the moon.

In it we will also see Boyd Holbrook, whom we know from the series “Narcos” and the action film “Logan: The Wolverine”.

“I’m the puppy for Mads, and a very crazy one at that,” says the actor, whose character is at the center of the historic August 13, 1969 celebration.

The cast also includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Antonio Banderas and Shawnette Renee Wilson. While the latter three have as yet undisclosed roles, Waller-Bridge is known to be Helena, Indy’s godmother.

The director will be James Mangold, who sat at the helm of films such as “Ford vs Ferrari” and “Logan: The Wolverine”. Mangold is taking over the baton of the franchise from Steven Spielberg, with the latter still remaining as a producer on the series.

The premiere of “Indiana Jones 5” is scheduled for June 30, 2023, and the first trailer of the expected film is expected to be released soon.
