In England: Ronaldo rethinks, stays at Manchester United – Football World – Transfers

Manchester United believe star player Cristiano Ronaldo could make a dramatic U-turn and decide to stay at Old Trafford after the club splashed out big money on new players in recent weeks, according to the Sun.

The Red Devils’ top scorer is known to have wanted to leave the club in the summer after they failed to qualify for the Champions League. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has been looking for a new club for the striker all summer, but to no avail.

The Portuguese’s mood is now believed to have changed since United completed the transfer of Brazilian winger Antoni from Ajax for close to €100 million. United’s management hope that Ronaldo can give Erik ten Hag’s revolution at the team a chance and help get the club back where it belongs.

During this transfer window, Old Trafford spent around €240 million on new players. Antony joins Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen, with Newcastle guard Martin Dubravka expected to join the club on loan.

Ronaldo was looking for a club to participate in the Champions League, but a deal was never reached. Manager Ten Hag has claimed that Cristiano is part of his plans, although in recent weeks it has been reported that he is ready to let the Portuguese leave as he feels he is affecting the morale of the team.

Ten Hag left Ronaldo out of the starting line-up for the last two games. He has always wanted to work with the Portugal superstar, but it has to be on his terms.

The Red Devils lost their first two games but then recorded wins over Liverpool and Southampton.

Yet while United have strengthened in defence, midfield and on the wings, they still lack a prolific goalscorer like Ronaldo. That’s why they’re going to try to keep him and hope he changes his mind and stays.
