Ice girl Elena ended Azarenka’s dream and is in the grand final
Elena Rybakina advanced to her second Grand Slam final after beating Victoria Azarenka 7-6(4), 6-3 in the Australian Open semi-finals. The match lasted an hour and 43 minutes.
The 23-year-old Russian, who competes for Kazakhstan, showed again that she is in great shape and has every chance to repeat her triumph last year, then at Wimbledon. In this way, it deprived Azarenka of a possible third title in the tournament.
Elena won a hard-fought first set in which she broke ahead at 5-3 and dropped a set point before being tied. She reached a tiebreak in which she led by 5:2 points and lost the next two, but on her opponent’s serve she managed to take the part after 7:4 points.
The second set was also very good. Rybakina broke through for 2:1, and at 3:1 she missed two opportunities to make her advance even more convincing. However, this happened for 5:2. Azarenka broke back but broke again on her serve to end the match at 3-6.
Rybakina impressed with 9 aces and a very good game on her opponent’s second serve. In the points in question, Vika won only 22% of the plays.
The tennis player of Kazakhstan did not betray herself again and showed almost no emotions after the end of the match. Her icy mentality could help her in the final against Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) or Magda Linet (Poland).
