Hyundai took advantage of this summer period to present two high-performance concepts, the RN22e and N Vision 74. The N Vision 74 is a high-performance hydrogen fuel cell hybrid model inspired by both the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo and the Hyundai concept Pony Coupe from 1974. The RN22e, on the other hand, uses the modular E-GMP platform with the body design of the Ioniq 6 sedan.
Although there is little chance of seeing these two rolling laboratories as they are, they are an opportunity for the manufacturer’s N sports branch to unveil its know-how and offer a taste of its future brand productions.
The RN22e concept, which is most likely to see the light of day, therefore takes up the features, extrapolated, of the future Ioniq 6. Equipped with its aerodynamic appendages, it measures 4.92 m long and 2.02 m wide and 1.48 m high, ie 7 cm more in length and 14 cm more in width than the Ioniq 6. These dimensions of an assault tank should not hide the fact that the chassis of the RN22e has been highly optimized. If the whole has been stiffened, the manufacturer has chosen to adopt an all-wheel drive, to which is coupled a Torque Vectoring (torque distributor) via a double clutch. The goal is to refine road holding and cornering precision.
Note also that to tickle the emotional fiber of enthusiasts, Hyundai says it is working on the sound of its electrified model and announces integrating vibrations and the feeling of gear changes with the N sound + for a more dynamic driving feeling.
On the performance side, the RN22e offers technical specificities similar to what we saw at Kia with its future EV6 GT. Thus, the power is increased to 585 hp and 740 Nm for a top speed of 250 km/h. The 77.4 kWh battery, based on an 800 V platform, is in theory capable of going from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes.
For the N Vision 74, the approach is a little different since this is a concept car incorporating a hybrid engine comprising a 62.4 kWh battery and a hydrogen fuel cell, with a capacity of 4.2 kg, all powering an electric motor developing 680 hp and 900 Nm. In addition, the range is increased to 600 km, with the possibility of refueling with hydrogen in five minutes.
With its retro-futuristic airs, straddling an Audi Quattro Group B and the concept of the ItalDesign style office, the N Vision 74 has a good chance of remaining in the prototype state. The probability of taking the road one day is higher for the RN22e. However, the manufacturer gives here an overview of the avenues it is exploring for high-performance applications of future electric vehicles in its N sports branch, an overview that could delight enthusiasts wishing to reconcile motorsport and future trends.
