Hundreds of graves delayed another Pique investment

Gerard Pique has long been preparing for life after football, venturing into various off-field investment opportunities for years now. The Barcelona defender is one of the owners of the second division football club Andorra, as well as the holding company “Cosmos”, which deals with investments in sports and the media.

Seba, however, Pique, who surprisingly made Luis Enrique’s 2022 World Cup squad despite quitting the Spain national team a few years ago, suffered a blow in his next venture. In 2015, the footballer bought land worth over 17 million euros in the Costa del Sol resort near Malaga. His intention was to build a hotel, but after archaeologists excavated the site, it looks like it won’t happen right away.

Almost 250 graves were found on the property, which archaeologist Alberto Cumpian described as “one of the largest necropolises in Spain”. However, the specialist explained that they were never used and had no value that would lead to their preservation.

However, the graves, dating from around the 15th century, will be thoroughly examined and studied, and only then will Piquet’s company be able to start building on the site of the discovery.
