Hundreds gathered at the funeral of 12-year-old Lola, who was murdered in France

Hundreds of people gathered at the funeral of the murdered 12-year-old girl, whose body was found in a suitcase outside her home in Paris, reported AFP and Reuters, quoted by BTA.

The case shocked and divided France because the alleged perpetrator was an illegal immigrant. The 24-year-old Algerian Dabia B. was arrested a day after the events in the suburbs of Paris. She was in France with irregular status and was obliged to leave the country.

Loudspeakers were set up outside the church of Saint-Omer de Lilleurs, in northern France, so people could follow the mass, which was attended by Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanen. Neither the family nor the minister made public statements today.

Hundreds of people stood in silence as a hearse carried the girl’s white coffin to the cemetery for a private burial ceremony. His assassination became a source of political tension in France. Opposition parties have seized on the suspect’s nationality to call for tougher immigration policies and criticize the government for not deporting immigrants whose asylum or permanent residency applications have been rejected.

The main suspect is under investigation on charges of murder, rape and acts of torture. She was seen on CCTV carrying the suitcase in which the strangled victim was found.

President Emmanuel Macron last week called Lola’s killing “extremely evil” and met the girl’s parents.
