He got away with a transfer and will be scrubbing the bench, but he got engaged to Miss Universe

Chelsea’s back-up goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga failed to secure a move to the club in the summer, but in the final hours of the transfer window he sealed a far more substantial deal.

The player announced his engagement to his girlfriend Andrea Martinez – a dazzling model and former Miss Universe Spain.

Martinez, 30, and Kepa, 27, went public with their relationship in January, but it started a long time ago.

The goalkeeper half became Miss Universe Spain 2020 and competed in the Miss Universe World Pageant in Las Vegas that year.

She’s also a former basketball player who played for the U15 girls’ national team. She has a degree in business administration and management and works in marketing, and in her Instagram bio she also states that she is a “certified plasmalogist.”

Kepa emotionally announced the news of his engagement and was congratulated in the comments below the post by a number of football figures, including legendary former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The loved-up couple have been vocal about their feelings for each other on social media, and in March, Andrea Martinez defended her lover after he missed a crucial penalty in the Carabao Cup final that went to Liverpool.

She then posted a photo of Kepa’s teammates comforting him, writing:

“One of the things I learned as a basketball player is that a team is always a team. There are no heroes, there are no villains. In my personal opinion, it’s a very unfair situation and I’m not just talking about today. Real fans should show their love not only in victories”.

“Kepa Arrizabalaga, we are so proud of you as a goalkeeper and even more so as a person. Humble, brilliant, kind, generous, intelligent, hardworking, talented and the most beautiful soul I have ever met. This is just one line from a thick book. Let’s go on, my boy. I love you.”

The future of the goalkeeper in his personal life looks bright, but his career is at a dead end.

He didn’t play a minute in Chelsea’s first five games of the new season and looks set to remain a firm back-up for Eduard Mendy.

Kepa, who has 11 caps for the Spanish national team, was recently linked with a move to Napoli but will remain at Stamford Bridge until at least the winter.
