Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has commented on Erling Holland’s upcoming World Cup rest in Qatar next month.
The Norwegian and his teammates from the national team failed to qualify for the big championship and so the naked player will have a month out of action. Guardiola urged him “not to overdo it with food and drink”, but also pointed out that he believed in his professionalism.
Holland has so far scored 22 goals in 15 games for the “citizens” and has quickly become the most important player for the team.
“He will be in Marbella for sure, maybe Norway too. How he behaves in Marbella depends on whether he will be fit for the second half of the season,” Guardiola told reporters.
“He’s going to play golf, hopefully he won’t eat and drink too much and he’ll get back in shape. Erling is smart and has a work ethic. He’s one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave at practice. “He takes care of his body perfectly. He’s well-educated about the way he should live as a professional and he’s intent on improving. I didn’t know how well he moves in small spaces in the box, he scores a lot in the box.” commented Guardiola.
City face Holland’s former club Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League tonight having already qualified for the last 16 and needing a draw at the Westfalenstadion to secure top spot in the group.
