The acting Minister of Sports, Vesela Lecheva, has taken steps to initiate a procedure for granting a concession to the “Georgi Asparuhov” stadium, according to an official announcement from the ministry.
In recent weeks, it has been rumored that it is the lack of a long-term stadium concession procedure that is delaying the deal with Dragan Šolak and Sport Republic.
Here is what the department wrote:
By order of Minister Vesela Lecheva dated January 12, 2023, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with the participation of the District Administration of the Sofia Region, created a commission to prepare a draft proposal to the Minister of Youth and Sports for the award of a concession for the “Sports Complex for professional and mass sports “Georgi Asparuhov”, Sofia. The Commission must organize and carry out preparatory actions regulated in the Law on Concessions, including drafts of announcements for the opening of a procedure and of documentation for the concession.
When carrying out the preparatory actions under the Law on Concessions, the commission must prepare and present to the Minister of Youth and Sports the necessary project documentation for awarding in accordance with the Law on Public Procurement, the preparation of a legal, technical and financial-economic analysis of the concession.
The project for the concession of the site “Sports complex for professional and mass sports “Georgi Asparuhov”, Sofia, is included in the Action Plan for state concessions for the period 2021-2027. It was approved by the Council of Ministers on February 17, 2021.
