American actress Glenn Close, who was supposed to be president of the jury at the 70th San Sebastian Film Festival, will not be able to participate due to an “extraordinary family situation,” AFP reported, citing organizers.
The forum will take place from September 16 to 24, adds BTA.
“Glenn Close had to cancel his visit to the San Sebastian Festival at the last minute due to a family emergency,” a press release said.
“I deeply regret that I will not be able to participate … An extraordinary family situation forces me to stay at home,” wrote the actress, who has eight Oscar nominations. She apologizes to “the jury, the festival, the directors and the audience,” according to a statement quoted by the organizers of the film forum.
In the absence of Glenn Close, the jury will be chaired by Argentinian producer Matias Mosteyrin.
The San Sebastian International Film Festival has been organized annually since 1953 and is considered one of the most prestigious in Europe. The event has several times become a platform for emblematic premieres in world cinema. Within the framework of the forum, the European premiere of “Star Wars” took place and the world saw for the first time the legendary film “North by Northwest” (1959) by Alfred Hitchcock.
